As a Colorado wedding photographer, there is something pretty ridiculously special about weddings in general, but when you get to photograph the wedding of someone you’ve known since middle school, it takes it to a whole other level.
These two had an incredible fall wedding at the Lionsgate Chandelier Barn, with the most gorgeous colors in the trees and we got so lucky that the giant rainstorm that was forecasted, surprisingly disappeared. Their ceremony, the absolute sweetness had everyone in tears, and then we got the party started with some amazing toasts and some really fun surprise dances between Kayla + Jordan and Kayla and her father. They had such an awesome dance party and finished the night off with a sparkler exit!
I’ll let Kayla tell you their engagement story, it’s a pretty darn good one.
“After dating for over 2 years, Jordan surprised me by planning a fancy date night to our favorite restaurant, Oceanaire, and tickets to see a show at the DCPA. I asked my mom and friends several times if they thought this would be “the night”, and they all assured me that it definitely wasn’t. To start the night off, we park our car and I tell Jordan we can go down the back steps to get to the restaurant faster, he insists we go the other way and is acting a little strange. Throughout dinner, our waiter keeps coming up behind Jordan and almost whispering to him. I find this odd, but we finish dinner and head to the show.
We get there early, so Jordan suggests that we walk around the area looking at the statues. We get to the Seawell Ballroom and he keeps asking me what that building is. I was completely oblivious and kept telling him where we were. Finally, he points to the building and on the marquee was “Kayla, will you marry me?”. The next few moments are a complete blur, but I must have said yes at some point! Jordan’s sister, Regan, was there taking photos, and my parents were there to surprise us as well. To complete the most perfect evening, some of our closest friends had gathered at a bar to celebrate with us.
Theater has always been such a huge part of my life and Jordan found the perfect way to incorporate that on our special day. I feel like the luckiest girl!”
