2018. A year that in nearly every way possible, is going to be impossible to match.
It’s easy to get stuck in the negative when so many…er…challenging things happened every day around the world. I am just extremely lucky to see love daily, in so many forms through my work and in my personal life. It’s not lost on me what a privilege it is to walk out my door and make my way to beautiful locations that are full of nothing but love, and joy and laughter.
In 2018,
I photographed 54 weddings + elopements and 30 engagement + portrait sessions all over Colorado and from the top of the west coast down to the bottom of the east coast.
I did hair + makeup for 44 brides.
I put 42,000 miles on my car (not joking)…and got a new one!
We added video to our roster of creative abilities, and in the first few months Ben filmed 3 weddings!
so.many. roadtrips, including Banff + Jasper National Parks in Canada and Glacier National Park, in addition to visiting Grand Tetons + Yellowstone again.
Tons of concerts and seeing my friends in real life more than once a year(!!!)
We (mostly Ben) tried our hands at our first ever garden…and mostly failed, save for a couple little jalapenos.
skydiving, whitewater rafting with my best friends, alpine lake hiking, catching countless sunrises + sunsets, dirt road dances, wedding planning, meteor showers, waterfalls, disney world, dips in the ocean.
and oooohh yeah, most importantly, I married the best person on planet earth in front a small group of the people that mean the most to us. I know, it’s very cool and you’re probably wondering how I managed to trick such a wonderful human being into hanging out with me forever, and I dont actually have an answer for you, but it worked…whatever it was.
…
And I know I say it literally daily, but I just cant even handle the level of incredible that you people are.
The love I have for my couples is borderline ridiculous, and if there’s one thing I’ve taken away from the last year, it’s that I value the importance of creating and documenting the tangible evidence of the legacies of my couples, their families and their stories above anything else in my business.
Going back through all of the memories captured this year, it felt like I was looking through the wedding photos of my best friends, and I couldn’t feel more proud. I hold each and every single one of you, and the way you remember your wedding day to such a high standard. I photograph every single wedding as if it was my own, and give more of myself to each day than I ever realized before. I work really reeeeeally hard to make sure I dont miss anything, to make sure you get photos of every person you’ve invited to your wedding, whether it’s 20 people or 230 people. To document not only all of the beautiful details you worked so hard to plan for, but also all of the moments happening around you that you may not even witness because you deserve to see how everyone you invited enjoyed the party you spent so long planning for and so thoughtfully put together.
I cry with your parents, I dance with your siblings and laugh hard (at you sometimes, not sorry) with your friends but most importantly, I’m right there cheering you on …even if we’re basically strangers. I know better than anyone that you dont get a redo of your wedding day, all you have at the end of the day is what I give to you, which is just…really big; the most important thing, and I don’t take it for granted.
To put it as simply as possible,I give a shit
and this collection of photos shows some of the highlights of my work and things that I saw with and for people that really do mean the world to me.
* this collection of 5 billion photos has been put into a slideshow if you’d rather watch something for 11.5 minutes than scroll through this looooong post. there’s music, 4 of my most played songs from 2018.
*if you’re a freshly engaged human being and somehow make it to the bottom of alllllllll of these favorite moments of mine, theres a list of a few of my favorite wedding vendors + locations, teams of people that excel at what they do in the wedding industry. People who help make wedding magic happen and doing my job easier and even more fun.*
