Everything about this Vail Golf Club Weddin was quintessential Mike and Melissa: a little bohemian, a little country—and never too serious. Melissa and her bridesmaids sported cowboy boots, a bluegrass band played an acoustic version of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’Mine” and their doggo Koda served as the ring bearer. From the beginning, they knew they wanted to surprise their guests with something unique to them and the occasion. M + M share a love of travel (and of course a healthy sense of humor), somehow it all made sense. “Our lives literally revolve around travel,” said the now Mr. and Mrs. Nelson. “When it came to our wedding, it was important that we ‘do us’ and share our love for adventure in a unique and fun way and including ‘Chaplain’ Obvious in our big day was the best way we knew how!”
Captain Obvious launched into his deadpan speech, admitting he’d just met the couple that day, telling them never to go to bed angry (tiredness, after all, was the preferred state for sleep) and letting them know that arguments among married couples can, sometimes, be complicated. The guests chuckled throughout, and then it was time for Mike and Melissa to say their vows. With a mixture of emotion, light hearted jokes and shout-outs to their favorite baseball team, they confessed their devotion to one another. Then their pup (wearing a dress code-appropriate bow tie) bounded up the aisle to present Mike with the ring around his neck. Before it could become officially official, Chaplain Obvious instructed the bride and groom to kiss—using the appropriate amount of PDA, of course. And then it was on to the party!
